ACEG recognizes that in spite of World Trade Organizationís efforts, moves to liberalize trade and remove protective trade arrangements are still characterized by trade barriers, unfavourable terms of trade for primary commodities, market price distortions, commodity price volatility and inadequate domestic processing and value adding. The issues requiring research under this theme include but are not limited to the following topics:

i. Price volatility of primary commodity exports

ii. Opportunities for trade creation

iii. Aid, foreign direct investment and trade

iv. Barriers to trade across national borders

v. Administrative and quantitative obstacles to intra-regional trade

vi. Implication of law and uniform tariffs

vii. Liberalization of foreign exchange transactions
