60. Provision of Monthly and Quarterly Updates on the Economic and Political Developments in Kenya

Objective: This broad objective of this project is to provide ad hoc and independent economic advise to the management of Barclays Bank of Kenya and the Embassy of Japan in Kenya, based on analysis of economic, social and political developments. The specific objectives of the project are to:

  • Prepare monthly economic and political briefing reports to assist the Embassy in making informed decisions;

  • Undertake specific research and analysis on request of the Bank and the Embassy;

  • Produce a Quarterly Economic Bulletin on Kenya for use by the Bank and its customers

61. Developing a Country Information Gateway for Kenya

Objective: The objective of this project is to establish and maintain an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Country Gateway for Kenya. This gateway is expected to integrate many existing and new information and communications systems into a focal point for sustainable development and, more particularly, private enterprise development. This is in realisation of the fact that the Small and Medium Enterprise sector has a large potential to be an engine for growth of Kenya’s economy if information and communications infrastructure can be harnessed to support its development.  The mission is to develop a high impact ICT focal point for Kenyan knowledge-sharing networks and to create sustainable partnerships in information and communication technologies.

62. Kenya Trade Capacity Building Project

Objective: Under this project, ACEG will identify both obstacles to trade and improving Kenya’s competitiveness in the world market, including compliance with WTO regulations, among others.  

63. Kenya Financial Sector Reform Forum

Objective:  The objective of this project, whose climax was a national Forum held in April 2004, is to publish the proceedings of the Forum as well as a book containing 5 thematic areas of concern to the financial sector in Kenya. A proposal will also be drafted for the creation of a financial sector strategy for Kenya.

64. Reflections on Mitigation of Legitimation Crisis: An Inquiry into Contradictions of Underdevelopment

       Adebayo M.A. Ninalowo is a Professor of Sociology from University of Lagos, Nigeria. In April to mid-July 2005 he visited the African Centre for Economic Growth, Nairobi, as a Research Professor through the auspices of the Ford Foundation. His work embraces Mitigation of Legitimation Crisis: An Inquiry into Contradictions of Underdevelopment across Africa.
